Grilling The Perfect Steak

graph of different meat temperatures based on cook time

Much of the best part of summer is the food we make when our friends and families are all together on a well-deserved camping trip. We look forward to cool watermelon, corn on the cob, creamy potato salad, and a juicy grilled steak. Everyone has their own way of grilling steak and some are better than others. There are a few things you can do to make sure your next batch of steaks come out better than they ever have before.

It begins with the cut. Good meat equals good results, especially when it comes to steak. When you make your purchase be sure to get high-quality meat. Ask your butcher for their recommendations if you aren’t sure what to buy. The steak should be fresh and marbled enough to add flavor but not so much as to be fatty.

Cook room temperature meat on a hot grill. Dropping these warm steaks on a very hot grill will sear them quickly which seals in the juices as they cook. You won’t be flipping them more than one time to cook the other side. They should have those gorgeous grill marks showing on both sides and be smelling amazing by now.

Most Chefs recommend steak to be served in the medium rare range though not everyone likes it that way. You can make it as you like it by cooking longer through a range of doneness. The photo above is an example of what you can expect at each temperature range. You can use a meat thermometer to determine the internal temp of each steak if you find it helpful.

We hope you get to share many meals with your favorite people this summer and that all your steaks are brag worthy.
