Easy New Ideas for Hotdogs at the Campsite

three corn hot dogs on a plate

Campers love hotdogs, both young and old alike. It’s tradition to cook hotdogs over the campfire and we all look forward to it on every camping trip. Most of the time we top them with ketchup, mustard, relish, and onions. There are plenty of ways to jazz them up and we’ll highlight a few of them here.

Pretzel Buns – The simple act of swapping out a regular hotdog bun with a fresh and tasty pretzel bun can transform your hotdog. Drizzle on some cheese sauce and sliced, pickled jalapeno to make it amazing. The cheese sauce can be made with a smooth, creamy cheese like Velveeta and add some milk & Jalapeno pepper juice. It will have just the right amount of heat to make this hotdog memorable.

Texas Style with BBQ sauce and coleslaw – This twist provides all the best of Texas with your choice of BBQ sauces and the addition of cool and crunchy coleslaw. You can make your own BBQ sauce with onion, garlic, tomatoes, brown sugar, dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, and some spices or buy your favorite BBQ sauce to save time. Make up a quick coleslaw and you’re ready to eat. These spicy, sweet dogs also have crunch which just adds to the goodness of this style of hotdog.

Brooklyn’s Corniest HotDogs  – You’ll be caramelizing onions and adding bacon, corn, and cheese to this version of the hotdog. Spread the buns with mayo and mustard, then add the rest. It is truly delicious. Best of all, each person can choose the additions they like best.

You can get the recipes for these and several more at Top Hotdogs from the Food Network. We hope all your camping meals are delicious this year and that these new twists on an old favorite are a hit with your family.
